In 1984, Houston made the move to California and worked there for the last 20 years of his career. Houston made the move back to Tennessee in 2006 to be closer to home and family during the latter years of his life.

He is survived by his sons, Shane Warren, Craig Warren (Anne Warren), and Greg Warren (Alison Warren); sisters, Gail Bain (Art Bain) and Wanda Maxwell (Gary Maxwell); brother, Michael "Mickey" Warren (Susan McCormack); his aunt Mildred Warren Blazer; five grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
