Geneva Burney Meggs, fondly known as Geneva and “Granny” by her grandchildren, transitioned from this world on July 20, 2024, in Jackson, TN. She was born on August 27, 1928, in Carroll County, TN, to the late Orell and Rosa (Scott) Burney who nurtured her into the remarkable woman she became. She met A. G. Meggs, a handsome young soldier, and they were happily married for 56 years.
Geneva led a fulfilling life as an inventory control clerk at Black & Decker in Jackson, TN for 35 years. Her dedication and precision shone through her work, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Outside of work, Geneva found joy in a myriad of hobbies. She found peace in the great outdoors while camping with A. G. and so many of their friends. Her creative spirit flourished through sewing and quilting. A lover of words, she could often be found immersed in reading her Bible or creating culinary delights in the kitchen. She was famous for her chicken and dumplings, fruit cobblers, and green beans.
She was a faithful member of Smyrna Baptist Church, Humboldt, TN for over 30 years. She was definitely a woman of Faith.
The legacy Geneva leaves behind extends beyond her professional accomplishments and hobbies. She touched the lives of many throughout her journey, leaving indelible marks of kindness and warmth. Her last several years were spent at Cades Center in Humboldt, TN where she made many new friends, who became like family to her. Many times you could find them laughing and sharing memories while sitting on the back deck enjoying a summer breeze.
In the midst of mourning her loss are her surviving family members: daughter, Melda Collins and husband Bill; grandchildren, Amelia LaDon Duggin and husband Russell, Alicia Alleen Bradford, Adam Wayne Bradford and wife Cathy, Lindey Leigh Moore and husband Ben, Courtney Beth Bevins, Kelly Nicole Collins; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews whom she loved dearly.
