Mr. Robert Daniel Graves, Jr., 96, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, peacefully at his home. Born on January 18, 1928, in North Madison County, Robert (Junior) lived his entire life on Graves Loop Road, in Medina, TN. He grew up on the family farm, where he embraced hard work, including plowing with mules, hauling hay, chopping wood, and picking cotton. Robert farmed his entire life - raising hogs and cattle and growing cotton, corn, soybeans and wheat. A true outdoorsman, he had a passion for hunting and raising horses and an extreme love for playing baseball, especially as a pitcher.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Robert served his community as a Madison County Commissioner. He was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and on the cemetery committee. He also enjoyed participating in the church softball league. Robert also had a rewarding career as a school bus driver for Madison County Schools, relishing the band trips and transporting sports teams to their games. A farmer at heart, he found joy in tending to his vegetable garden and sharing his harvest with others.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Daniel Graves, Sr. and Nettie Marie (Rhodes) Graves, his first wife, Josephine (Michie) Graves, his second wife, Doris (Johnson) Graves, and his wife of 57 years, Martha (Holbert) Graves, who passed away in 2018. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Larry Graves, C.D. Graves, Rhodes Graves, Muriel Blow, and Almeda Brown.
He is survived by his children: Jennifer Stinson and her husband Bruce, Daniel Graves, Jayne Ann Serrano and her husband Leo, Glen Graves and his wife Julie. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Adam Cherry and his wife Baleigh, Jena Cherry, Zach Serrano, Zeb Serrano and his wife Lauren, and Delaney Graves; as well as great-grandchildren: Perrilyn Davis, Chandler Cherry, Joey Serrano, and Callaway Cherry.
